Blackout Risk in the GB Grid

In this short paper, energy system expert Kathryn Porter looks at the possibility of Net Zero policy causing blackouts in the GB grid. She considers recent ‘near misses’ and presents a new analysis of grid frequency, which suggests that the system is becoming dangerously unstable.

She then goes on to consider the impact of Labour’s Clean Power 2030 on grid stability, and concludes that it it is likely to lead to disaster.
